Way back when I first came to visit New York in early 2010, I made sure to make a point to go see Central Park. An amazing rectangular island of green in the middle of the nation’s biggest city, it has a weird, otherworldly, almost Narnia-like vibe to it. This year’s NYC Popfest went from May 17-20 in different venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn, and like every year before this one, it wasn’t just a great festival of wonderful new and established indie pop bands from all over the world, but also a once-a-year gathering for the world’s pop community, a chance for old friends to get together and bond and make new ones as well, all brought together by a mutual love of great music and all things pop. All New York's a Venue is a series that goes out to prove just that. The Five Boroughs make for a perfect backdrop for any music, anywhere from a park in Chelsea, to a rooftop in Red Hook, to a subway train crossing Jamaica Bay. We'll be filming great bands from New York and beyond playing acoustic, stripped down or plugged in sets just about anywhere we won't get kicked out.
All New York's a Venue came about as the New York City version of The Austin Sessions, a Take Away Shows-inspired offshoot of the award-winning KVRX/TSTV joint Local Live, which featured the best of Austin music. Stay tuned for more bands from all over, making New York a venue.
